Green Team Update: May activities, volunteers needed

Had a blast at our last activity, an informative seminar from Fleet Farming.

Tuesday May 27th 6:pm to 7:30: pm Friends of San Sebastian River have their monthly general meeting at North Indian River County Library 1001 Sebastian Blvd, Sebastian, FL 32958, USA. This event is not sponsored by the library.

Guest speaker Dr. John Trefry, Professor Emeritus, Florida Institute of Technology, will give a presentation on sediments and nutrients that have accumulated in the river and the Indian River Lagoon. Dr. Trefry studied sediments in the Lagoon and tributaries to help determine sources of nutrients and how muck contributes to the problem. for more information visit FSSR.

While there be sure to visit the Green Teams community engagement table outside the front of the library. Ask about our Free potted plants.

Wednesday May 28th 9:30am be part of the solution for healing the Indian River Lagoon by voluteering at the next Team ORCA seminar. Attendees will be trained on maintaining a nursery for native plants used for shoreline restoration projects. For more information visit: Team ORCA

Friday is for Farming at ChoZen Retreat. Starts at 9 am. I need someone to assist in cataloguing plant specimens for a spreadsheet. Ideally a Google photo application on an Android cellphone is needed but if you have an app that identifies plants that is good too. Email or text me for more instructions.

Activity update: Green Teams to the Rescue

Purpose

Organize a group of similar minded people with environmental and conservation interests, then further discover their sub interests. Then create presentations to show them a variety of activities related to their interests.

This will include allies, outside organizations like nature clubs, municipal entities, non profits. etc needing volunteers and participants. To make it fun we may create a volunteer tee shirt with their organization’s name on it.
