The Pelican Club is currently giving away Bald Cypress trees for free:

Nursery Hours: Monday & Wednesday - 9AM to 11AM Saturday - 9AM to Noon

Bald cypress trees (Taxodium distichum) offer significant benefits in Florida, acting as excellent, low-maintenance trees for flood-prone landscapes, erosion control, and wildlife habitats. They are highly resilient to hurricanes, thrive in waterlogged or acidic sandy soils, improve water quality through filtration, and provide stunning autumn color with their deciduous needles.

Erosion Control and Water Management: Their extensive root systems stabilize soil along shorelines, protecting banks from erosion. They also act as natural sponges, absorbing high quantities of water and mitigating flooding. Low Maintenance and Adaptability: While they thrive in water, bald cypress trees can adapt to drier sites once established. They require minimal pruning and are highly resistant to pests and diseases. Environmental Impact: These trees are effective at carbon sequestration, with one tree potentially offsetting hundreds of pounds of carbon over its lifetime.

Lasagna Garden planning

This garden plan is on the property of the Sebastain United Methodist Church, off of Main Street Sebastian.

The letters repesent the potted plants that are there now. A and C are Aloe Vera plants which act as good "canaries in the coal mine" They tell us if this spot is too hot from the sun when their leaves get burnt. Or if there is not enough sunlight.

Letter B is a potted Milk Weed plant which is an important plant for attracting Monarch butterflies. It would be nice to have butterflies flying aroung in God's garden.

Above is a map of where our garden project is located. The arrow show where our water supply with a hose will come from.

It may look a little trashy now but it is coming together. Let me know if you would like to help.

Questions or comments are welcome, leave a comment below.
